Hi, my name is Linda and I am a freelance Props Artisan by trade and a papercut artist by passion! I got my BFA in Art with a concentration in Sculpture from Hamilton College and my MFA in Props Technology at Ohio University under the guidance of Tom Fiocchi. Born and raised in NY, I've had the pleasure of working for theatres there and across the country including Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and The Glimmerglass Festival, and most recently at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at University of Maryland. Papercutting has always been a hobby outside of all my professional endeavors, I think because it combines the the tactile dimensional quality of sculpture with the practicality of a flat canvas. I love playing with color and pattern, composition, and silhouette, so the medium also satisfies my proppy heart's desire to save everything!
Magicwood Workshop was conceived in 2018, but not truly put into practice until quarantine gave me the time to dedicate to it. The biggest theme of the shop is imagery from an ongoing long term project called Magicwood's Illuminated Alphabet - an endeavor that seeks to highlight the unique relationships we've had with nature throughout history by pairing a silhouetted illustration of a plant for each letter of the alphabet with a lovingly researched paragraph providing insight into the myths and symbolism associated with it. Another shop favorite is a customizable papercut cat illustration, perfect fun for the cat lover in your life - and you know we all have one! My shop is full of whimsical botanical imagery, available as printed and/or papercut greeting cards and other paper-based products!
