Cassandra Trautman Cassapora Leather MFA Texas Tech University 2018 BA Angelo State University 2014 I am a Leathersmith and Theatre Artist with a focus on Costume design and construction. I am currently in a 2 year artist residency with Charles Adams Studios in Lubbock, Tx. Theatre Work I have won at least 1 award from KCACTF (Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival) every year from 2013-2018 for costume design, construction/craft, and/or scenic design. (11 total) In 2018, I was awarded the USITT (United States Institute for Theatre Technology) SILV Award for my design and crafting of costumes in "Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play" at Texas Tech University. I have won 2 trips to the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas for Theatre Crafts. Leather work My first foray into leather bags was in 2011. I made a purse from vintage leather belts to submit into a contest for upcycled items with the clothing brand, Urban Outfitters. I won the contest and a $1000 gift card. In 2014, I saw that the company had produced a line of bags nearly identical to the one I had submitted photos of. I was never told they would produce the design and have not been further compensated. This happened as I was approaching graduation from undergrad and pushed me to further my skills in leather work. I then took the next year to learn everything I could about leather craft and build my brand, Cassapora, while working at a leather supply store. The next year I started Graduate school where I featured leather in every show design I could to build my portfolio. I am now graduated and in an artist residency for my combined theatre and leather work.
I make custom leather goods and laser engraved/cut wood items in my Live/Work studio in Downtown Lubbock, Texas. Most of my items are handbags, totes, wallet and other small goods but I also do custom leather armour pieces, custom upholstery, and graphic design.
